The Horizons I Walk On
“Why soil was the topic that truly stuck with me is a mystery, but I know most of it had to do with your enthusiasm. You just really liked soil and now, so do I”
- Excerpt of a letter to and in memory of Mr. B
The Story
I adapted this film from a story I wrote when I was 14, centered around a character who found comfort in music and nature amidst the challenges of high school life, grappling with bullies and a sense of isolation. This film highlights the freedom I receive from moving music and my strong connection to the natural world.
This film continued as a creative commentary and a space for me to mourn the loss of a dear friend.
While creating this film, I was informed of the passing of one of my close friends and high school teachers, Mr. Baccanello (Mr. B). His enthusiasm towards understanding the natural environment and promoting the urgency of environmental action inspired me to pursue an undergraduate degree in environmental studies. Our shared passion for the environment, especially in marine biomes, led to multiple in-field research projects, with Mr. B as my faculty advisor/sponsor. I'm grateful for the time I spent with him and the lessons he taught me. He'll always be a big motivation for me when it comes to caring for the environment. His impact continues to fuel my dedication and admiration for environmental causes, leaving an everlasting mark on my journey.
